ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation, Research center in Brisbane, Australia
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation was a research facility investigating media, cultural studies, communication, law, education, economics, and information technology. Based at Queensland University of Technology's Kelvin Grove Campus, it also operated research nodes across other major Australian universities including RMIT and Swinburne.
The center was founded in 2005 with Australian Research Council funding and became Australia's first excellence center dedicated to humanities and creative arts. It conducted operations until 2013 when its funding period concluded.
The center brought together universities, government officials, and industry professionals to shape how creative industries were measured and understood in Australia. This collaboration meant that research findings directly influenced policy-making and business practices across the country.
The center was located within Queensland University of Technology at the Kelvin Grove Campus in Brisbane and can be visited as part of the university. Research publications and materials remain accessible through university libraries and academic databases.
The center developed novel statistical methods to measure the creative economy, something that had previously been difficult to quantify with precision. These measurement techniques helped governments and businesses recognize and value creative work in new ways.
