Mount Root stands at 3,928 meters elevation, featuring the Margerie Glacier and creating a natural boundary between Alaska and British Columbia.
The International Boundary Commission established Mount Root as Boundary Peak 165 in 1907, marking the border between the United States and Canada.
The mountain bears the name of Elihu Root, a diplomat who resolved territorial disputes between the United States and Canada.
The mountain requires technical ice climbing skills, with the east ridge route consisting of 22 ice climbing pitches.
The first successful ascent occurred on June 18, 1974, when four climbers completed the challenging east ridge route.
