Colonel Henry Clay Hooker established this first permanent American cattle ranch in Arizona during 1872, expanding it to cover 800 square miles.
The main adobe house reflects Spanish Colonial architecture with its U-shaped design, central patio, and strategic defensive features including roof gunports.
Located at 4,000 feet elevation, the ranch maintains cattle grazing operations and produces alfalfa under the management of sixth-generation Hooker descendants.
The ranch headquarters stands on the site of an 18th-century Spanish estate, featuring the original barn marked with 'Sierra Bonita Ranch 1872'.
