Eyipantla Falls

Eyipantla Falls, 50-meter waterfall in San Andrés Tuxtla, Mexico.

Eyipantla Falls is a 50-meter high and 40-meter wide cascade that plunges over a dark gray rock wall, producing dense spray as it falls. The water creates a misty veil that penetrates the immediate surroundings and envelops the entire scene.

The name Eyipantla comes from the Nahuatl language and means 'three water streams', a name rooted in ancient times. For centuries, indigenous peoples have regarded this place as a sacred site with spiritual significance.

The local community connects this place to ancient legends about Tlaloc, the Aztec rain god, and keeps these stories alive through oral traditions.

The site is accessible via a 244-step staircase that leads to a lower viewing platform or an upper observation deck. Visit early in the morning when fewer people are around and the light falls on the water in a special way.

The waterfall served as a filming location for major movie productions in the 1990s and 2000s. Filmmakers chose this spot because of the dramatic landscape and the distinctive visual qualities it offered.
