Robertsdale, city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States
Robertsdale is a small city in Baldwin County, Alabama, situated in the southern part of the state not far from the Gulf Coast. Its layout is straightforward, with a central area of local shops, restaurants, and homes spread across flat terrain.
Robertsdale was founded in 1921 by the Chicago-based Southern Plantation Development Company, which established it as a farming community in rural Alabama. Over the following decades it grew steadily into a small town while keeping much of its agricultural character.
The city takes its name from B. F. Roberts, a leader of the founding company from Chicago. Local markets and festivals give visitors a chance to see what residents make and grow, with artisans and producers often present in person.
The city is easiest to get around by car, with clear roads and parking generally available near the main commercial areas. Those traveling along the Gulf Coast often pass through, making it a convenient stop along the way.
A Buc-ee's travel center opened here in 2019 as the first location in Alabama, drawing many road travelers who stop for fuel and food. The city is also the birthplace of Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, and Janie Ledlow Shores, the first woman elected to Alabama's Supreme Court.
