Gold Coast Railroad Museum

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum displays over 40 historic rail cars, locomotives, and equipment at a former naval base. The collection spans several miles of track with different vehicle types from various eras of railroad history.

The museum was established at a former military base and preserves locomotives and cars that shaped transportation across different decades in America. A highlight is a presidential train car from the 1930s that carried several heads of state.

The museum shows how trains shaped daily life and trade in America, from early steam locomotives to modern passenger cars. Visitors can peer inside cabins and understand how people once traveled and worked.

The museum is located in southwest Miami and is open Wednesday through Sunday, with a straightforward entrance and various walking routes between the tracks. Comfortable shoes are recommended since there are several miles to cover and the grounds are sometimes uneven.

On weekends, visitors, especially children, can ride a twenty-minute train journey on a separate narrow gauge track. This miniaturized railroad offers a different perspective on the collection and makes the place more than just an exhibition space.
