Lovers Key State Park, State park in Lee County, United States
Lovers Key State Park is a nature preserve on four connected barrier islands with 2.5 miles of sandy beach along the Gulf of Mexico shoreline. The grounds include maritime forest, lagoons, and shallow waters between the islands.
In the 1970s, the land was originally planned for luxury condominiums but was converted into a protected nature park through donations from Florida residents. This rescue project made it possible to preserve the barrier island ecosystems for the future.
The Discovery Center offers visitors insights into the local ecosystems and wildlife through regular educational programs. These presentations help people understand how the different habitats here are connected.
Visitors can reach the beach by tram and rent equipment for water activities at the park. Seven miles of hiking trails wind through the forest and offer different routes for various fitness levels.
The park is home to over 125 bird species that visitors often see while walking the trails. Additionally, people regularly spot manatees and dolphins in the surrounding waters.
