Koreshan State Historic Site, Historic settlement site in Estero, United States.
Koreshan State Historic Site is a park containing restored buildings, gardens, and natural areas in southwest Florida. The 135-acre property spans along the Estero River and features 11 structures along with planted grounds and walking paths.
Dr. Cyrus Teed founded the Koreshan Unity religious community on this land in 1893. The settlement remained active until 1961, leaving behind the structures and grounds that exist today.
Residents cultivated extensive gardens and used the settlement for printing and craft work that reflected their daily life. The buildings display a blend of Victorian design and local Florida construction styles that remain visible today.
The site offers hiking trails, boat access, fishing spots, and camping for visitors with various interests. Guided tours through the historic buildings run regularly and provide detailed insight into the former settlement.
The settlement generated its own electricity through generators powered by the Estero River's current. This was one of the first power generation facilities in the region and reveals the community's technical self-reliance.
