Dog Island Lights, Light station south of Carrabelle, Florida, US
The Dog Island Lights station included multiple towers reaching 40 to 50 feet in height, constructed of brick and wood along St. George's Sound.
The United States Congress allocated 10,000 dollars in 1837 for the construction of the first lighthouse, which began operating in 1839 to guide maritime traffic.
The lighthouse remains held importance for maritime navigation research, leading Florida State University archaeologists to conduct field studies at the submerged site in 2006.
The brick ruins of Dog Island Lights now rest underwater on the offshore side of the island, located at coordinates 29°47′N 84°40′W.
Beach erosion caused the final brick tower to lean and collapse in 1872, forcing operators to transfer the lantern to the keeper's dwelling before total destruction.
