Florida Brewing Company building

The Florida Brewing Company building is a six-story brick industrial structure and the tallest building in Tampa's Ybor City Historic District. The structure displays typical industrial features with large windows and robust masonry walls that remain in their original form today.

The building was founded in 1896 and operated as Florida's first brewery, quickly becoming a major industry in Tampa. The facility played an important role in the economic development of the Ybor City neighborhood during the early 1900s.

The structure reflects the Spanish and Cuban heritage that shaped Ybor City, with its brick facade and industrial design telling the story of immigrant craftspeople who built this neighborhood. Walking around the building, you notice how the architecture connects to the surrounding historic district that developed around immigrant workers and their trades.

The building is located in downtown Ybor City and is easily accessible while walking through the historic neighborhood on foot. You can appreciate the exterior architecture and masonry from the public street, with the best view available from E 5th Avenue.

The site was originally the location of Government Spring, a natural water source that supplied Fort Brooke long before the brewery was built. This spring also held importance for the region's original inhabitants during ancient times.
