Anthony, human settlement in Florida, United States of America
Anthony is a small unincorporated community in Marion County, Florida, located just north of Ocala. The area is characterized by horse farms, fields, and open green spaces, with a quiet rural appearance and scattered homes set on large lots.
Named after founder E. C. Anthony, the community established a post office in 1877 and was officially mapped when the railroad arrived in 1883. After a period of phosphate mining in the early 1900s, it lost its town status during the Great Depression in 1932 and returned to county administration.
The community is deeply connected to horse breeding and farming, visible in the many horse farms and local events centered around these activities. The annual Peanut Festival and farmers' markets show how residents maintain their ties to agricultural roots and local traditions.
Best reached by car, the community sits along County Road 200A, also called Jacksonville Road. Nearby attractions like Ocala National Forest, Silver Springs State Park, and Juniper Springs Recreation Area are short drives away and offer hiking, camping, and water activities.
The restored old train depot now serves as a gathering place and venue for community events. This repurposed building shows how residents preserve memories of the railroad era that drove the community's growth in the 1800s.
