The Hub, University building on Stadium Road in Gainesville, United States
The Hub is a university building in Gainesville that features a flat roof with red brick construction and large glass panels set into its exterior walls. The upper windows allow natural light to flood the interior, while pre-cast trim details emphasize the modern design approach.
The building was designed between 1949 and 1950 by architect Andrew Ferendino, moving away from the Collegiate Gothic style that defined earlier campus structures. This shift toward modernism reflected changing design values during that postwar period.
The building received its name through a student contest, moving away from its initial designation as the Student Services Center in the 1950s.
The building sits conveniently on Stadium Road and is easy to reach by foot from most parts of the campus. The 2007 renovation made it accessible with modern facilities inside, though it functions primarily as an active university workspace.
Inside the building sits a pink marble staircase that adds an unexpected touch of refinement to the otherwise functional modern space. This detail stands out against the simple exterior and catches visitors off guard.
