The Hub, University building on Stadium Road in Gainesville, United States
The Hub is a university building on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, built with red brick, a flat roof, and large glass panels set into its exterior walls. Upper-floor windows bring natural light into the interior, and pre-cast trim details run along the facade to break up the surface.
The building was designed between 1949 and 1950 by architect Andrew Ferendino, breaking away from the Collegiate Gothic style that had shaped the campus until then. A renovation completed in 2007 updated the interior while keeping the original structure in place.
The building got its current name from a student contest held in the 1950s, replacing the original name of Student Services Center. Students on campus still use it as a meeting point and central place for administrative tasks.
The building sits on Stadium Road and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of the University of Florida campus. It operates mainly as a working space, so weekdays are the most active times to visit if you want to see it in use.
Inside the building there is a staircase made of pink marble, which stands in sharp contrast to the plain brick exterior. This detail surprises many visitors who expect only a functional space when they walk in.
