Star Island, Residential island in Miami Beach, United States.
Star Island is a man-made residential island in Biscayne Bay between Miami Beach and the mainland. Properties sit along curving streets with views of open water, and each estate features manicured lawns, tall hedges, and usually its own boat slip at the waterfront edge.
The site was created in 1922 through land reclamation as part of a larger project to expand Miami Beach westward. The first buyers built Mediterranean-style homes that have been rebuilt and modernized many times over the decades.
The island takes its name from the original star-shaped layout with multiple street arms radiating from a central point. Today you see mainly white walls and manicured palms along property lines, while private docks provide direct bay access for residents.
Access is through a single bridge from MacArthur Causeway, and the streets inside are public although all properties are private. Pedestrians can walk along the roads, but there are no sidewalks or public waterfront areas.
The island has only a handful of streets, but each address ranks among the most expensive residential addresses in the country. Some homes change hands without ever being publicly listed for sale.
