Downtown DeLand Historic District, Historic district in DeLand, Florida, US.
The Downtown DeLand Historic District is a grouping of around 68 buildings in the center of DeLand, Florida, bordered by Florida Avenue, Rich Avenue, Woodland Boulevard, and Howry Avenue. The buildings range from early commercial storefronts to civic structures, together forming a compact traditional American downtown.
The district developed in the early decades of the 20th century as DeLand's main commercial and civic center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, formally recognizing its role in the town's growth.
The Athens Theater, built in 1922, still hosts concerts and live performances and draws locals and visitors alike on weekends. The streets around it fill with people on event nights, giving the district a sense of everyday community life.
The district is easy to explore on foot since the historic buildings are grouped along a few short blocks. Walking in the morning or late afternoon tends to offer quieter streets and better light for taking in the building details.
The Miller-Fish Building houses the Museum of Florida Art, where regional works are displayed inside one of the district's original commercial structures. It is one of the few places in a small Florida downtown where a working art museum occupies a historic storefront.
