The Barnstormer, Steel roller coaster in Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.
The Barnstormer is a steel roller coaster at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, following a course with gentle drops and turns along a 679-foot (207-meter) track. The ride reaches a speed of 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers per hour) and passes through a brightly colored hangar area with airplane-themed decorations.
The attraction opened in 1996 and was originally part of a farm theme featuring Goofy as a farmer. In 2012 it received a new aviation theme and was integrated into the Storybook Circus area.
The attraction serves as a first roller coaster experience for young visitors and presents a story about a stunt pilot with a plane crash theme. Guests waiting in line walk through a hangar filled with props and signs that reinforce the flying stunt concept.
Children must be at least 35 inches (89 centimeters) tall to ride, and the entire circuit takes 53 seconds from start to finish. Each train holds up to 16 people and wait times tend to be longer on weekends and during school breaks.
The original version contained three mechanical chickens that came from the former World of Motion attraction at Epcot. These figures were removed during the 2012 redesign when the theme changed from a farm to a flight school.
