Orlando City Hall, Municipal government building in downtown Orlando, United States.
Orlando City Hall is a nine-story building featuring a copper dome that rises 120 feet into the air. The exterior is clad in sculptural granite aggregate concrete panels that give the structure its distinctive appearance.
The current building opened in 1992 and replaced the previous city hall that had served Orlando. The architectural firm HKS Inc designed this new structure to consolidate municipal operations in a modern facility.
The Great Room functions as the main entrance and displays artwork from local artists throughout its walls. You can walk through this space and explore the galleries, experiencing a sense of the creative community in Orlando.
The building sits at the corner of South Orange Avenue and South Street in downtown Orlando. It is easily accessible by public transportation and contains spaces for public meetings and events.
The former city hall building was demolished in a controlled explosion that appeared in the opening sequence of the film Lethal Weapon 3. This destruction was part of the city's decision to build a completely new municipal center.
