Nathan Cobb Cottage, Heritage residential cottage in Ormond Beach, United States
The Nathan Cobb Cottage is a small residential building in Ormond Beach with a rectangular layout and straightforward structure. Its interior features heart pine floorboards throughout and has been updated with contemporary improvements.
The building was constructed in 1897 from materials salvaged after a schooner ran ashore near Ormond Beach the year before. The hull and fittings of the stranded vessel were repurposed to create this cottage.
The cottage carries the memory of regional maritime history in its walls. Visitors can see how shipboard materials were repurposed in everyday structural elements, reflecting the close relationship between this coastal community and the sea.
The building sits on Orchard Lane and is easily accessible while walking through Ormond Beach's residential area. It was marked with a Florida Historical Marker in 2021, providing additional information about its origins.
Door frames, stairs, and railings came directly from a stranded sailing ship and are built into the cottage. This uncommon material makes it living evidence of how coastal residents once used shipwreck materials for practical needs.
