Kennesaw House, Historic building in downtown Marietta, Georgia, US
The Kennesaw House is a three-story brick building in downtown Marietta with exposed original brickwork and restored interior spaces. The building now contains the Marietta History Center, which displays its collections across multiple floors in period rooms and galleries.
The building was originally constructed in 1845 as a cotton warehouse and later served as a hotel. It gained prominence when the Great Locomotive Chase began from this location in 1862 during the Civil War.
The building now houses a museum displaying local history through objects and recreated rooms that show how people lived and worked in the area. These exhibits help visitors connect with the everyday life of earlier generations.
The building is open to visitors Monday through Saturday, with guided tours available to learn more about its history. The interior is easily accessible and the exhibitions are spread across multiple floors for a self-guided experience.
The building was one of the few original structures to survive Sherman's military campaign in the region. Its survival makes it a rare witness to what downtown Marietta looked like before the war.
