Daniel Island, Residential neighborhood in Charleston, US
Daniel Island is a residential neighborhood situated on a large island between the Cooper River and Wando River in Charleston's northern sector. The area features planned communities with schools, recreational facilities, and distributed green spaces throughout multiple neighborhoods.
The island was controlled by the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation from 1947 through the early 1990s, when it served as farmland and private hunting grounds. Following that period, the land underwent transformation into residential development.
The Daniel Island Club and Credit One Stadium shape how residents spend their free time, with golf, tennis, and professional sports woven into daily life. These venues serve as social gathering points where the community comes together throughout the year.
The area is well-served with schools including Daniel Island Academy, Daniel Island School, and Bishop England High School for families. The various parks and sports facilities are spread across the island and accessible to both visitors and residents.
Each of the eight parks on the island was designed for a specific neighborhood, making green space immediately available to residents. This dispersed arrangement differs from traditional centralized park systems.
