Lenoir Store, Bauwerk in den Vereinigten Staaten
Lenoir Store is a one-story wooden building on a brick foundation in Horatio, South Carolina. It features a simple metal roof hidden by a false front and a porch with plain square wooden posts and knee brackets; inside, original equipment such as old scales, tobacco cutters, and postal boxes from earlier times remain visible.
The Lenoir family has operated a store at this location since before 1808, possibly as early as 1765. This makes it the oldest business in Sumter County and a central place for the rural community for over two centuries.
The store takes its name from the Lenoir family, who have operated a business here for over 200 years. It serves as a gathering place where people come not just to shop but to exchange news and connect with one another.
The store opens from early morning until late afternoon on weekdays with shorter hours on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The post office section operates on similar hours, serving as a central location for Horatio residents.
The current operator Beverly Johnson is the seventh generation of her family to run the store and creates colorful artworks that she enjoys sharing with visitors. Her artistic passion was awakened after a health experience and adds personal character to the shop's unique appeal.
