Stillwater Cove Regional Park sits along the northern Sonoma Coast with a crescent-shaped beach, old-growth redwood forests, and dramatic coastal cliffs. Multiple hiking trails wind through the property, while an inland campground provides 23 tent and RV sites for overnight stays.
A schoolhouse built in 1885 during the Russian colonial period was moved to the park grounds in 1974. This structure reflects the layers of settlement and cultural influence that shaped this coastal region from the 1800s onward.
The Pomo people inhabited this coastal area for generations before European arrival changed the region. Walking through the forest and along the shore today allows visitors to sense the historical connection between the land and its original inhabitants.
Wear sturdy hiking boots as trails are rocky and uneven, especially after rain. Spring and summer offer the best conditions for exploring, when paths are drier and more manageable.
The Canyon Trail follows Stockhoff Creek through forest where wild coho salmon and steelhead trout populations survive, along with rare wildflowers including swamp harebell. This less-visited route allows travelers to experience the watershed in a quieter, more natural state than busier park areas.
