Stillwater Cove

Stillwater Cove is a sheltered inlet along the Sonoma Coast with rocky shores and sandy patches along the waterline. The bay opens to the south and is enclosed by rocky outcroppings that help protect it from heavy ocean swells.

A schoolhouse built in the late 1800s was moved to the park grounds to protect it from disappearing. This relocation reflects how the area transformed from a frontier settlement into a recreational destination.

The cove attracts people interested in marine life and diving, drawing both locals and visitors to explore its underwater world. The sheltered waters make it an accessible place for those wanting to experience the coast without rough ocean conditions.

The site has diving areas, boat launch points, and a campground with basic facilities for overnight stays. Come prepared for windy conditions and bring appropriate gear for water activities.

The cove's shape creates a natural barrier that blocks most northwestern winds year-round. Only in winter when large swells form offshore do substantial waves reach its waters.
