This three-story Queen Anne style residence features asymmetrical facades, elaborate decorative woodwork, two corner turrets with conical roofs, fish-scale shingles, and carved gable pediments facing Lafayette Park.
Built in 1889 by architect Walter J. Mathews for Charles A. Belden, a treasurer at W. W. Montague & Company, the house survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and represents late Victorian residential architecture.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 11, 1983, the house exemplifies the Queen Anne architectural movement that gained prominence in San Francisco during the 1890s Victorian era.
Located at 2004 Gough Street on approximately 0.2 acres, the property offers views of Lafayette Park and remains a preserved example of 19th-century residential design in Pacific Heights.
The house displays mythological creature panels on its second-floor porch and sunburst motifs flanking third-floor windows, showcasing ornate Victorian craftsmanship rarely found in contemporary residential architecture.
