Goodman Building, Residential and commercial landmark in Cathedral Hill, San Francisco, United States.
The Goodman Building at 1117 Geary Boulevard features Italianate architecture with detailed ornamentation, symmetrical design, and multiple commercial spaces on the ground level.
Built in 1869 by Joseph Emeric, this structure underwent significant repairs following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire that damaged many buildings in the area.
The building transformed into an artist community in the 1960s, hosting notable residents including photographer H. Pierre Smith and singer Janis Joplin.
Located between Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Street, the Goodman Building maintains its original mixed-use function with retail spaces at street level.
The structure earned its name from Abraham and Sarah Goodman who purchased it in 1899 and operated a tailoring business while living in the upper floors.
