Twomey Cellars, Wine estate in Calistoga, Napa Valley, US.
Twomey Cellars is a winery in Calistoga, in the Napa Valley, focused on Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc from selected vineyards across several growing regions. Grapes come from areas including Anderson Valley and Russian River Valley, each bringing a different character to the wines.
The Duncan family opened Twomey Cellars in 1999 as an extension of their existing wine business, Silver Oak. The new label was meant to explore grape varieties and growing regions beyond what Silver Oak had been doing.
Twomey Cellars takes its name from Velma Marie Twomey Duncan, the mother of co-founder Ray Duncan, giving the place a personal family identity. The tasting rooms sit right next to the estate vineyards, so visitors can see the vines while sampling the wines made from them.
The winery is in Calistoga and easy to reach by car, with tasting rooms right on the property next to the vineyards. Booking ahead is a good idea, especially on weekends, as walk-ins may not always be accommodated.
Jean-Claude Berrouet, a French winemaker who spent decades at one of Bordeaux's most recognized estates, joined the team in 2012. He brought a European approach to working with California grapes, which is not a common pairing in Napa Valley winemaking.
