Mirassou Winery, Historic winery in Silicon Valley, California, US
Mirassou Winery is a California wine brand producing varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Moscato. The wines are made in the Modesto area and are sold mainly through retail stores and online orders.
The winery was founded in 1854 by Louis and Pierre Pellier in the Santa Clara Valley, making it one of the oldest commercial wine operations in California. After Gallo bought the brand in 2003, production moved to the Modesto area.
The Mirassou name is now mainly found on bottles sold in supermarkets and online stores across the US. It stands for an accessible California style aimed at everyday wine drinkers rather than collectors.
There is nothing to visit on-site, as the original vineyard land in San Jose has been replaced by housing. Those who want to try the wines can order bottles online or look for them in local grocery stores and wine shops.
The Pellier brothers brought vine cuttings from France when they arrived in California in the 1850s, planting some of the first European grape varieties in the region. This origin explains why French varieties like Pinot Noir have stayed at the center of the brand's lineup ever since.
