Playland-Not-At-The-Beach, Entertainment museum in El Cerrito, United States.
Playland-Not-At-The-Beach was a museum in El Cerrito, California, dedicated to vintage arcade games, pinball machines, and carnival attractions. Most of the exhibits were playable, which set it apart from a traditional display-only collection.
Richard Tuck founded the museum in 2000 inside a former grocery store he converted to house his personal collection of vintage entertainment items. It opened to the public in 2008 and closed permanently on Labor Day 2018.
The museum held objects from San Francisco's original Playland at the Beach, including a giant clown's blue hat and a wooden figure called Walking Charley. These pieces gave visitors a direct connection to an amusement park that many Bay Area families remembered from their childhoods.
The museum is permanently closed, so it is no longer possible to visit in person. Those interested in the collection can look for archived information or community records about it online.
The collection included the Marcks Family Miniature Circus and a number of unopened tickets and original signs from the old amusement park. These small objects gave a sense of the everyday life of a park that no longer existed.
