PlumpJack Winery, Premium winery in Oakville, Napa Valley, United States.
PlumpJack Winery is a vineyard producer in Oakville, Napa Valley, focused on premium wines made from multiple grape varieties. The estate grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sangiovese on its property.
The winery was established in 1997 by acquiring a vineyard with roots going back more than a century on Oakville Cross Road. The PlumpJack Group, founded by Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty, led this venture into wine production.
The name comes from a Shakespeare character, Sir John Falstaff, whom Queen Elizabeth called Plump Jack. This choice reflects how the winery celebrates its connection to literary heritage.
The winery has a tasting room where visitors can sample current wines and join scheduled activities throughout the year. The space is designed to provide a comfortable setting for exploring the wines and spending time on the property.
In 1997, the winery pioneered the use of screwcaps on its premium wines, a bold move for the industry at that time. The screwcap bottles were actually priced higher than cork-sealed versions, challenging traditional wine market expectations.
