Civic Stadium, Baseball stadium in Eugene, US
Civic Stadium was a baseball facility in Eugene featuring wooden grandstands and a natural grass field situated at 430 feet elevation with a capacity of around 6800 spectators. The structure was oriented toward the southeast, presenting the classic appearance of an early-century minor league venue.
The stadium was constructed in 1938 through the Works Progress Administration, a federal employment program during the Great Depression era. It arose from a partnership between the Eugene Chamber of Commerce and the Eugene School District 4J.
The stadium served as home field for Eugene Emeralds minor league baseball team from 1969 to 2009, hosting numerous community athletic events.
The facility required extensive renovations due to problems with irrigation systems, electrical infrastructure, and damaged seating areas. Visitors would have needed to prepare for limitations and construction zones when attempting to use the grounds.
The venue was among the ten oldest still-active minor league baseball stadiums in the United States before a fire destroyed it in 2015. This event ended a long period of baseball history in the city.
