Lowell State Recreation Site

Lowell State Recreation Site is a state park on Dexter Lake in Oregon with picnic areas, boathouses, and grassy spaces extending to the water. The location has four boat ramps, rentable moorage, a courtesy dock, and a life jacket loaner program for water users.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department took over management in 1998 through a major land swap with other properties. This exchange helped the state consolidate and manage multiple recreation areas more effectively.

Rowing clubs and the University of Oregon operate boathouses here and organize competitive races during spring. These events draw paddlers and spectators from across the region.

Spring is ideal for visiting when weather is mild and rowing events occur. Winter offers a quieter experience with easier walking and good conditions for wildlife watching along the shoreline.

Winter brings large numbers of migratory waterfowl and bald eagles to the lake, creating rare viewing opportunities. These raptors hunt in the shallow waters, giving visitors with binoculars an unforgettable wildlife display.
