Hendricks Park, Botanical garden in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
Hendricks Park is a botanical garden in Eugene with extensive rhododendron collections, sections dedicated to native plants, and old-growth Douglas fir forest. The grounds slope across varied elevations, revealing different garden areas and woodland habitats as visitors move through the park.
The park was created in the early 1900s when local pioneer E.B. Hendricks donated the land to the city. Development of the gardens and woodland areas expanded over the following decades, establishing the park as a major green space in Eugene.
The park serves as a central gathering space where locals meet along shaded trails and in open clearings during weekends. People come here to walk, sit on benches, and spend time with family in a green setting away from the city center.
The park has multiple entry points and connects to about 12 miles of walking trails, including the northern end of the Ridgeline Trail. Wear good shoes since the paths go uphill and downhill through rolling terrain.
The park holds more than 6,000 rhododendron varieties, one of the largest collections in the country. Many visitors overlook the fact that rare and exotic types grow here alongside native forest plants.
