Hendricks Park, Botanical garden in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
Hendricks Park is a botanical garden in Eugene, Oregon, featuring an old-growth Douglas fir forest, a rhododendron garden, and a native plant section. The grounds cover hilly terrain, so different garden areas and woodland pockets reveal themselves gradually as you walk through.
In the early 1900s, local pioneer E.B. Hendricks donated the land to the city of Eugene. Over the following decades, the garden areas and woodland sections grew and took shape, turning the site into one of the city's main green spaces.
Each spring, the rhododendron garden draws many visitors who come just to see the flowering shrubs in bloom. The shaded forest paths are used year-round by locals for daily walks, making the park a regular part of neighborhood life rather than just a weekend destination.
The park has several entry points and a network of walking paths, some of which go steeply uphill or downhill. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as paths can be slippery depending on the season.
The park connects directly to the northern end of the Ridgeline Trail, a long route that runs through several of Eugene's green spaces. Most visitors do not realize they can step from the botanical garden onto this trail and keep walking through forest for a long stretch without leaving the city.
