Sunriver Observatory

Sunriver Observatory is an astronomical facility with a large collection of telescopes open to the public. The site houses multiple instruments of varying sizes, including specialized equipment designed for observing the sun.

The facility became known as Oregon Observatory at Sunriver starting in 2012, when it joined the Sunriver Nature Center organization. This partnership helped establish the site as a major educational resource for the region.

The observatory serves as a gathering place where school groups and families connect with astronomy through hands-on classes and workshops. Visitors can explore the night sky directly through the telescopes with guidance from knowledgeable instructors.

The site is located at high elevation in a mountain area and operates during fall and spring seasons. Visitors should prepare for cold nights and weather conditions typical of this elevation.

The facility holds the largest collection of public-use telescopes in the entire United States. This range of instruments allows visitors to observe celestial objects in different ways and discover how various observation techniques work.
