La Pine State Park, State park along Upper Deschutes River in Oregon, United States.
La Pine State Park is a large forest area covering over 2000 acres of pine woods in the high desert region near the Cascades. The Deschutes River runs through the land with hiking trails on both sides and camping facilities plus small cabins for overnight stays.
The park land came together through purchases made between 1966 and 1981 from federal agencies and private owners. This gradual assembly created the protected area that exists today.
The park draws visitors to seasonal outdoor pursuits: people fish along the river, hike through forest trails, ride bikes on designated paths, and in winter, walk with snowshoes across snowy ground. These everyday activities shape how visitors experience and move through the landscape.
The park offers different lodging options, including campsites with water and electrical hookups plus rustic cabins that require advance booking. Visitors arriving without reservations should expect limited availability, especially during warmer months.
Within a designated day-use area stands one of Oregon's oldest ponderosa pines, a tree over 500 years old and rising above 150 feet (45 m) high. Many visitors miss this giant because it sits away from the main pathways.
