Paulina Falls

Paulina Falls is a waterfall in Deschutes County with two parallel cascades dropping about 24 meters over dark volcanic rock. The water creates a striking white curtain against black cliff faces.

The falls were created by volcanic activity within the Newberry Volcano caldera thousands of years ago. Lava flows and erosion shaped the surrounding landscape across multiple geological periods.

The area served as hunting and gathering grounds for indigenous peoples of central Oregon over many generations.

The falls are reached by a short hiking trail with multiple viewing platforms along the way. The path is straightforward and offers viewing points at both the upper and lower sections of the cascade.

The water splits into two distinct streams that flow at different rates depending on seasonal water levels. This dual-cascade structure creates varying visual patterns throughout the year.
