St. Helens Court, Mediterranean Revival residence hall at Portland State University, United States
The five-story St. Helens Court building features red veneer brick walls and Spanish-influenced decorative elements throughout its exterior design.
Real estate developer Harry Mittleman constructed St. Helens Court in 1927 as a luxury apartment building before Portland State University acquired it in 1969.
The building reflects the architectural preferences of academic institutions during the 1920s through its incorporation of Mediterranean coastal design elements.
St. Helens Court contains 36 studio apartments and 15 one-bedroom units, providing accommodation options for students attending Portland State University.
The building received its name as a tribute to Helen Mittleman, whom her husband Harry considered a saint when developing the property.
