KOIN Tower, Business skyscraper in Portland, United States
The KOIN Center rises 509 feet with 35 floors in downtown Portland, featuring a ziggurat profile and a distinctive pyramidal steel crown at its summit.
Designed by ZGF Architects and completed in 1984 for 48 million dollars, the building changed its original name from Fountain Plaza to KOIN Center after its main tenant.
The limestone facade at ground level contains visible fossils of sea creatures, including sand dollars, byrozoa, and barnacles embedded within the material.
The mixed-use building contains separate entrances for its office spaces, retail areas, residential condominiums, and television broadcast studios across different sections.
The construction generated local discussions as it blocked the view of Mount Hood for motorists traveling east on U.S. Route 26 after the Vista Ridge Tunnel.
