Farragut Park, Urban park in Portland, United States
Farragut Park is a roughly 14-acre green space in Portland with walking paths, open fields, and multiple sport facilities. The grounds include basketball courts, baseball diamonds, play areas, and picnic zones for year-round use.
Portland acquired this land in 1940 and named it after Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, a naval officer from the Civil War era. The naming reflected the city's way of honoring important military figures in its public spaces.
This space functions as a neighborhood gathering spot where people naturally come together for games, celebrations, and daily outdoor time. The mix of activity areas shows how communities shape their public spaces to fit their needs.
The park sits at the corner of N Kerby Avenue and Farragut Street and features accessible pathways throughout. Visitor facilities include restrooms, play structures, and picnic areas conveniently located around the grounds.
A major renovation in 2021 added specialized play equipment designed for young children and an interactive splash pad to the grounds. This upgrade made the space more welcoming for families with toddlers and small children.
