Cape Mudge Lighthouse

Cape Mudge Lighthouse is an octagonal concrete tower located on the southwestern coast of Quadra Island. The structure features a red balcony and lantern room at the top, and is accompanied by various outbuildings including residential quarters and storage facilities.

The lighthouse was originally built in 1898 as a wooden structure and was replaced in 1916 with the current concrete tower. The reconstruction took place during a period of heavy maritime traffic in the region.

The lighthouse serves as a navigation marker for vessels moving through Discovery Passage and is recognized by local boaters as a key landmark. It remains an important reference point for people who work on the water in this region.

The site offers a good vantage point for exploring the coastline and surrounding waters from the area. The location is best visited in fair weather, and provides wide views of the surrounding seascape.

From 1936 to 1985, the station served as a monitoring point for daily water temperature and salinity readings as part of a scientific program. These measurements contributed to a long-term dataset that helped researchers understand the local marine environment.
