Hospital Reservation Historic District

This military medical complex in Bremerton comprises six brick structures arranged across landscaped grounds with grass and shrubs. The buildings originally functioned as housing for medical officers and staff quarters alongside hospital facilities for naval personnel.

Medical operations began here in 1909 when the Navy built facilities to treat its personnel. The site reached its peak development by the early 1940s as naval medical services expanded.

The buildings reflect how the military organized healthcare through their layout and design choices. Walking through the grounds, you can see how spaces were arranged to serve both patients and staff efficiently.

The district sits between two other historic neighborhoods, making it easy to visit all three in one outing. You can walk around the grounds and view the exteriors of the buildings at your own pace.

A burial ground that once existed on the grounds was moved to the Presidio in San Francisco, changing the site's character. This relocation removed an important part of the original landscape that visitors would have encountered a century ago.
