The Cowichan Valley Regional District covers 3,473 square kilometers of land between Stuart Channel and Saanich Inlet on Vancouver Island's eastern coast.
The district was established to coordinate municipal services and regional planning across multiple communities, including Duncan, Ladysmith, and Lake Cowichan.
Within the district, Duncan features over 80 totem poles representing First Nations heritage, while local communities maintain strong agricultural and maritime traditions.
The district provides essential services to 89,013 residents through a 15-member board representing four municipalities and nine electoral areas.
The region encompasses several Gulf Islands, including Thetis, Penelakut, and Valdes, offering distinct coastal environments and marine access points.
