Tri-Cities, Metropolitan area in British Columbia, Canada
Tri-Cities is a metropolitan area east of Vancouver consisting of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody. These three communities sit close to one another and together with smaller villages form a connected region.
European settlers began developing the region in the mid-1800s, establishing communities along trade routes and transportation corridors. The arrival of rail lines and later highway connections encouraged the growth of three distinct municipalities.
The area reflects British Columbia's multicultural composition with 55.5% European residents and 23.6% East Asian residents according to demographic data from 2016.
The region is well served by public transportation, including the Millennium Line rapid transit and the West Coast Express train. Visitors can use either service to move between the three cities and explore different stations.
The West Coast Express train service connects the three cities through dedicated stations at Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam Central, and Moody Centre.
