Lower Queen Anne is an urban residential neighborhood in Seattle with a mix of apartment buildings, shops, and restaurants. It spans between Ward Street and Denny Way, just north of downtown.
The neighborhood developed in the early 1900s as a residential area at the base of Queen Anne Hill. The Counterbalance section took its name from cable cars that navigated the steep Queen Anne Avenue grade.
Seattle Center here serves as a major gathering place for music and performance, where visitors encounter a creative community actively using its venues for shows and events.
The Seattle Center Monorail and numerous King County Metro bus routes make it easy to reach downtown and other areas from here. The southern part is relatively flat, while the northern sections climb toward Queen Anne Hill.
KEXP-FM, a well-known radio and music platform, moved its headquarters here in 2015. This shift brought the station's supporters and media activities into the neighborhood.
