City Center East is a 26-story office building featuring expansive glass panels and contemporary architectural details across its exterior. The structure houses an underfloor ventilation system and incorporates rainwater collection for irrigation purposes.
Construction began in 2009 under ZGF Architects LLP, introducing a new phase in Washington's urban development. The building has since become an anchor for modern office infrastructure in the city.
The building serves as the headquarters for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, housing approximately 700 employees in an open-plan environment.
The building features modern climate control and filtering systems designed for energy efficiency and comfort. Visitors can explore the main lobby area and observe how contemporary office design handles environmental systems.
A rooftop tank uses phase change materials to store and release cooling energy throughout the day. This system significantly reduces the building's annual energy consumption.
