Whitehorse Mountain, Mountain summit in North Cascades, Washington, United States.
Whitehorse Mountain features a steep north face that rises 1,830 meters within just 2.9 kilometers from its base near Darrington.
Nels Bruseth completed the first documented ascent of Whitehorse Mountain in 1909, establishing the Northwest Shoulder as the standard climbing route.
The Lushootseed people named the mountain čubaliali, and their mythology describes it as a woman who fought with Mount Higgins over her husband.
Climbers must carry ice axes and crampons while monitoring weather conditions, as the 6,000-foot elevation gain involves snow climbing and class 3 scrambling.
The mountain received its English name in 1894 when postmaster W.C. Hiles noticed a snow patch resembling Fred Olds' white horse.
