Moro Rock, Granite dome viewpoint in Sequoia National Park, United States
Moro Rock is a granite dome rising from the forest floor in Sequoia National Park, towering above the surrounding landscape. A staircase with roughly 350 steps climbs to the summit, where views sweep across multiple mountain ridges and valleys below.
The stairway to the top was built during the 1930s to give visitors safe access to the summit. This construction project was part of early efforts to make the national park more accessible to the public.
Native American tribes of the Sierra Nevada region used this geological formation as a significant landmark for navigation and ceremonial purposes.
The climb takes about half an hour and the trail is fairly short from the parking area. During colder months, ice can form on the steps, so sturdy shoes and caution are important.
From here you can see multiple large mountain ridges at once, stretching across a vast valley. The distant view reaches to the eastern hills at the park's edge.
