Hazelwood Tree

Hazelwood Tree is a giant sequoia in the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park, featuring the massive trunk and towering height typical of these ancient trees. It stands among other similar specimens in this grove, contributing to the dense forest landscape visitors encounter.

Researchers discovered this tree in 1989 and it became part of the park's documented inventory of giant sequoias. A lightning strike in 2002 caused significant damage to the tree's structure.

The Hazelwood Nature Trail near the tree provides educational information about redwood forest ecology and conservation methods to visitors throughout the year.

A marked trail leads to the tree from the Generals Highway and is straightforward to locate. The walk is manageable and takes little time, making it convenient for a quick stop between other park activities.

The tree suffered major losses from a lightning strike in 2002 but remains healthy and growing. Visitors can observe the healing and resilience of these giants in nature.
