High Roller, Observation wheel in Las Vegas Strip, US
The High Roller is a Ferris wheel in the LINQ entertainment district in Paradise on the Las Vegas Strip, with glass cabins on a tall steel structure. Passengers can stand or sit on benches along the cabin walls during the ride, taking in views of the desert and urban area.
Construction started in fall 2011 with foundation work before the first steel segments were erected in late 2012. The wheel opened in March 2014 as part of a larger project redevelopment of The LINQ property.
Visitors celebrate bachelor parties or marriage proposals in the enclosed space, while some cabins come with a bar. Local wedding couples often use the facility for short receptions overlooking the city's nighttime lights.
The ride lasts half an hour and runs at a slow pace, giving enough time for photos. On hot afternoons, the cabins can warm up from the sun, while in the evening the air conditioning provides cooling.
At wind speeds above 40 mph (64 km/h), the facility automatically stops operation for safety reasons. Technicians regularly check the bearings and drive system to ensure smooth rotation.
