This resort reproduces landmarks from Venice, including waterways, arched bridges, and building fronts inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Guest rooms occupy two connected towers, while public areas recreate plazas and arcades modeled after the historic center of Venice.
The property opened in May 1999 after demolition of the previous building on the site. A few years later, the owners expanded the complex by adding another tower and new public areas.
The resort reproduces Venice's Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square and the Campanile, and its canals, indoors and out front, are only knee-deep. Singing gondoliers pole gondolas along them, and the Irish dance show Lord of the Dance keeps a troupe that performs only here.
Main areas sit on the ground floor and first level, where shops, dining rooms, and the gaming floor are located. Visitors can walk along the canals or step outside to the pool areas when they need a break from the air-conditioned interior.
The Venetian opened with 3,036 suites in a 35-story tower, and the adjoining 12-story Venezia tower added in 2003 brought the total to 4,049 rooms. Combined with its sister property The Palazzo, opened in 2007, the complex holds roughly 7,100 rooms, ranking it second-largest hotel in the world.
