REAL BODIES at Horseshoe, Anatomical exhibition at Horseshoe Science Museum in Clark County, United States.
REAL BODIES at Horseshoe is an anatomical exhibition featuring preserved human bodies and more than 200 specimens displayed to show different systems of the human body. Information panels throughout the space explain the structures and functions of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and organ systems.
The exhibition was developed in the early 2000s using an innovative preservation technique that has been refined since its founding. In 2022, a new section opened showing the impacts of COVID-19 through 3D-printed models and scientific documentation.
As visitors walk through the exhibition, they see their own bodies as interconnected systems of structures and functions. The preserved specimens show everyday processes like breathing and blood flow in a direct, visual way.
The exhibition space is easily accessible within the Horseshoe complex and provides plenty of room to walk and view specimens from different angles. Visitors will benefit from moving slowly through the space to fully understand the detailed information panels and appreciate the preparation of each display.
Each specimen is preserved using a special process where bodily fluids are replaced with liquid plastic to keep tissue structures intact over time. This polymer impregnation technique allows the body's details to remain visible and clear for many years.
