Menden

Located at the northern end of Sauerland near the Ruhr river, Menden extends across valleys and hills at 150 meters above sea level.

Menden received its city rights in 1276 and developed from a religious center with churches established in the ninth century into an industrial town.

The Museum of Menden exhibits medieval artifacts, prehistoric human remains, and a cave bear skeleton, representing the regional heritage through extensive collections.

The city maintains eleven elementary schools, four hauptschulen, two realschulen, and three grammar schools to serve the educational needs of 52,485 residents.

The Theater am Ziegelbrand and two additional theaters provide performance spaces for various productions throughout the calendar year.
